Director of the Master of Science in Tourism and Event Management Thierry Rigaux
MSc in Tourism and Event Management
Excelia Tourism School, in partnership with Excelia Business School, is offering a Master of Science in Tourism and Event Management. Indeed, Tourism and Events are inextricably linked as tourists are more attracted to dynamic and welcoming regions which, beyond the quality of the destination itself, also offer an innovative and diverse programme of events. Regions have understood the importance of this and are now incorporating this aspect into their development and image strategies. Our Master of Science aims to educate you to become an expert manager in designing and developing a tourist event offer that is in harmony with a region and its heritage.
To enhance your employability, this programme will enable you to develop specific business skills sought after by government bodies or event companies, whilst providing you with a solid foundation in management by drawing on the expertise of the Faculty of both Excelia Tourism School and Excelia Business School. Furthermore, the issues of sustainable development and innovation have an important place as it is impossible to be involved in an event without considering its CSR dimension. In fact, Excelia is recognised for its innovative and pioneering CSR approach and is conscious that when organising events, it is essential that tourism and events managers focus on how to reduce its carbon footprint.
Excelia also places great emphasis on digital technology and you will be able to learn about and master the organisation of ‘hybrid events’, which may well become a standard in the future. Our MSc in Tourism and Event Management is aimed at students, but also at employees with business experience. The pedagogical approach of our programme is based on an experiential and immersive teaching method, which gives it real added value in terms of employability and expertise, boosting your vocational integration. Why choose the MSc in Tourism and Event Management?

Your experiences
Humacité© and Climacité© Projects
You have the opportunity of undertaking a 2-month social, humanitarian or civic voluntary project in an NGO or an association, either in France or abroad. This is one of the unique features of Excelia, which is committed to educating students to become future managers who are both responsible and conscious of the importance of their role in society.
Work-study and/or long internship
A real springboard for rapid vocational integration, carrying out your programme on a Work-study Track will enable you to spend 3 days per week working in a company, gaining valuable professional experience.
Students signing a contrat de professionnalisation (professional training contract) or a contrat d’apprentissage (apprenticeship contract) will spend 3 days per week in a host company for the entire duration of their studies.
Students signing a work-study internship agreement (convention de stage alterne) will spend from September to April, in both Years 1 and 2 of the MSc, working in a host company.
These students, together with those on a Classic Track, will also carry out a long internship (4 months) in France or abroad, from April to August of both years.
Mentoring
In Year 1, this unique educational tool has been designed to enable you to develop your professional network through the support of an industry mentor who is a graduate of Excelia Tourism School and whose job reflects your own professional project. Your mentor will help you to both evaluate the current job market and to develop your career strategy.
Personalised Support and Guidance
Throughout your studies, you will benefit from personalised support and guidance. The school offers workshops structured around personal development (self-awareness and self-assertion), communication tools (CVs and cover letters), understanding the job market, learning about different careers, and developing your professional network.
Student Clubs and Associations
As for all students at Excelia, you have the possibility of getting involved in one of our 50 clubs and associations. Focussed on collective and individual fulfilment, your commitment is in keeping with Excelia’s fundamental values, enabling you to develop your skills and knowledge in a supportive and professionally-oriented environment.
Consultancy project
In partnership with a company in the events sector, you will carry out a project on behalf of one of our business partners.
Industry Seminars
Throughout the year, industry professionals and graduates deliver lectures on various themes in order to raise student awareness of the different issues and challenges currently facing the tourism sector. In addition, they also give presentations on specific careers.
End-of-studies Thesis
Your programme culminates with your end-of-studies thesis, which enables the school to evaluate your ability to identify the issues specific to the tourism industry, and to carry out analytical work, assess your findings and present appropriate solutions. Supervised by research-active Faculty members, this thesis offers you the possibility to carry out research on an operational theme, providing you with the opportunity of enhancing your CV for your future employability.

What is Work-Study?
Our programmes offered on a work-study track are subject to specific admissions requirements and conditions. To maximise your chances of being accepted on a work-study track, here is some useful information and helpful advice:- Personal interview: Candidates are strongly advised to submit a CV and a cover letter. How you perform on the day of the interview and the quality of these documents, even if optional, are all part of the assessment.
- Grant holders: as part of its commitment to social inclusion, when it comes to work-study, Excelia gives preferential consideration to applicants with grants.
Work-study is available from Year 1 of the programme for a period of 24 months. It is an opportunity to develop business skills in a company and to apply the management theory you have learned in class.
Work-Study in detail
- Contract type: contrat de professionnalisation (professional training contract), contrat d'apprentissage (apprenticeship contract) or a convention de stage alterné (work-study internship agreement)
- Format: 2 days school-based followed by 3 days company-based

Careers
Compared to other sectors of activity, the events industry remains stable and dynamic. It is a sector that has continued to grow year on year (with the exception of the COVID period). Revenues in the events industry are growing steadily, which is good for job opportunities. Professions are evolving with the advent of the internet and new technologies, which have contributed to the transformation and improvement of business practices.
Digital technology has changed communication in general, with the profusion of social media and content distribution platforms. These tools now benefit event organisers in the promotion of their events and, above all, in reducing costs at all levels (before, during and after events).
The principal actors are:
- Advertisers: they represent one of the key elements of a communications project. Advertisers may be clients of an advertising or marketing agency, but they may also work independently.
- Event agencies: they often offer a partial or complete service. The events organised are business-oriented (conferences, seminars, incentives, etc.) or personal (weddings, christenings, engagements, etc.). Some agencies are specialised in a particular field to offer a more personalised service.
- Service providers: these include hostesses, decorators, musicians, florists, etc. who work in collaboration with agencies or advertisers on the organisation of an event.
Our graduates quickly take up positions of responsibility across all 5 continents and, thanks to their MSc, they rapidly rise to management positions. Below is a non-exhaustive list of possible careers.
